Summer is here and we couldn’t be more excited! If you’re searching for ways to have some summer fun without breaking the bank, look no further. Your friendly bankers at Banterra are here to help you make memories that will last a lifetime without being a detriment to your future savings.
Pack A Picnic
Rather than spend money by eating out this summer, pack a picnic. You can make it fun by picking out your produce at a local farmers market and capitalize on the new breadmaking hobby you may have picked up during quarantine! Or you can turn it into an adventure for you and your kids by packing lunch to ride bikes, go hiking or take a trip to the pool.
Be Smart About The AC
While air conditioning (AC) in the summer is a necessity, you might not need to use it as often as you think. If it’s going to be a cool night, turn off the air before heading to bed and open a few windows. It can help to have a cross-ventilation set up. You can open windows on opposite sides of your home and set up a fan to exhaust out one window. It will pull the cooler nighttime air into your home while removing warmer, stuffier daytime air.
It’s also important to replace dirty AC filters. This regular maintenance can be easy to overlook, but a dirty filter can increase your cooling costs. Dirty filters restrict the airflow and the efficiency of the air conditioner, which translates into more run time and higher cooling costs. Filters are cheap, so replace them regularly.
Spend Evenings Outside
Instead of retiring to the couch to stream a show, use the extended daylight hours to enjoy the great outdoors. You'll save money on electricity by not running the electronics and indoor lights, and get some exercise, too. Use the long days to even engage in some money producing activity from the gig economy such as driving, walking dogs or serving outside for a few hours. Walk to work or ride your bike instead of driving to the office. The summer weather and the longer daylight are favorable for all these activities.
Take A Staycation
One way to save money on your summer vacation is to take a staycation. A staycation is when you visit places around where you live that you normally wouldn’t. Plan a staycation by making a list of popular tourist attractions in your city; think about the places you’ve always wanted to visit and look online for ideas. You can make travel itinerary for a day or multiple days and map out your travel route; maybe even research for special offers before you go. With a staycation, you can save money on travel expenses like airfare, hotel and gas, while also getting to better know the area where you live. Stay at your home or book a vacation rental for a change of pace or a hotel where you might enjoy a pool. Staycations can be a great way to explore your area and be just the break you needed. With the money that you save this summer, you can put a little extra into your Banterra savings account for those rainy days when you might need it.
