Tell Us About Yourself

Originally from Sikeston, Missouri, my wife and I now live in Cape Girardeau. We have five children (ages 23-40) living in various states including Tennessee, Mississippi, and here in Missouri. In my free time, I love to spend time outdoors. This includes hunting, fishing, artifact hunting, and metal detecting when time allows.

I have been in banking for over 43 years, starting with Home Savings of America (Sikeston, Missouri) back in 1982. Over my career, I have worked in almost every area of a bank (bookkeeping with Mercantile Bank, teller, note teller, new accounts, collection management, and more). I’ve had experience in every phase of lending from consumer to mortgage, ag to commercial. My father, a banker, told me when I started in banking that you need to begin your career understanding the responsibilities of every department so you can understand and appreciate how the bank functions and operates.

What Is Something About Yourself That Would Surprise Us?

I played college baseball at Arkansas State University, and then played at the semi-pro level for two years. I also had the opportunity to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals at the old Busch Stadium and the Philadelphia Phillies at their camp in Arkansas. Separate from baseball and a special moment early in my career was that I had the pleasure of having lunch with Sam Walton (Founder of Walmart and Sam’s Club), a very humble and kind man. Once he found out I was a quail hunter, that is all he wanted to talk about.

What Is Your Favorite Travel Spot?

I enjoy seeing Civil War battlefields and Native American parks, as well as the historic sites that surround them. Oh, plus wherever my lovely wife wants to go! The states we enjoy traveling to are Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

What Did You Want To Be When Growing Up?

I wanted to be a professional baseball player.

What Is Your Favorite Sport?

My favorite sport is definitely baseball.
